Retrievant has opened an office in Boston, our first outside Paris. Four people are there today, including our first US retrieval specialists, and we expect to be ten by the end of the year.
We chose the United States because it is where medical record retrieval is most broken and most expensive: a fragmented provider landscape, thousands of portals, and a legal and insurance industry that spends billions of dollars a year waiting for faxes. Our first legal and underwriting customers are American, and serving them well means being in their time zone and speaking to their providers during their business hours.
We chose Boston specifically for its concentration of hospitals, health-tech companies and the people who have worked at both. Several of our first US hires came from the interoperability teams of local health systems, and they know exactly which portal will break next.
The two offices share one retrieval queue and one on-call rota that follows the sun. Paris hands off to Boston in the early afternoon Central European time; Boston hands back in the Paris morning. Patients and customers see a single team.
